Zachraň jídlo and DODO: Fighting against food waste and helping another shelter
From the very beginning of DODO’s operation, we have had the taste and willingness to help. So when the Zachraň jídlo organization approached us in the spring of last year asking for help with their “Save Lunch” project, we did not hesitate for a second. To date, as part of our cooperation, we have delivered more than 16 000 portions of ready-made meals free of charge to shelters and emergency accommodations, which would otherwise have ended up in the trash.
A large part of our business consists of delivering groceries and ready-made meals, so we are not indifferent to the fact that up to a third of the world’s food is thrown away. This problem has a huge impact on the environment and the resources expended. The Zachraň jídlo association strives to ensure that every ingredient and portion of food is used to the maximum and thus reduce the negative impact on our planet. Our partnership with the Zachraň jídlo association and the “Save Lunch” project stems from shared values and a commitment to responsible use of resources. We are even more pleased that this cooperation brings help to those who really need it.
Already the 5th regular route and 70 portions of food daily
Regular deliveries of food to the Saint Theresa Shelter in Karlín represent the fifth regular route that we deliver as part of our cooperation with the “Save Lunch” project. In this way, we are able to effectively extend help to more places and contribute to sustainability in the city. For now, we are focusing on the Prague area, where we provide daily transportation of about 70 portions of food.
Who will receive the lunches?
The Zachraň jídlo association works closely with established charitable organizations, such as the Archdiocesan Charity. They also cooperate with various shelters that provide refuge and help to thousands of people in difficult life situations, including single mothers. Thanks to this cooperation, many people can get a hot meal, and at the same time, the amount of food that would otherwise end up in the trash is reduced.
Everyone can support
DODO gladly supports the Save Lunch project not only through free meal delivery but also financially. The Save Food association regularly organizes crowdfunding campaigns that allow the general public to contribute to this significant initiative. At this moment, a campaign called “Lunchbox” is taking place, aiming to raise funds for further development and support of the project.
