What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. They remember your choice, or keep the site working as you move from page to page. The same rules apply to similar technologies such as browser local storage, which is why we list both together.
Cookies fall into four groups: strictly necessary, functional (preferences), analytics and marketing. We need the first two for the site to do what you asked of it. Analytics and marketing are stored only if you give us your consent.
What we actually store
| Category | Name | Purpose | Lifetime | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | dodo_ | Keeps your cookie-bar choice so the site does not ask again and our measurement respects your decision. | 6 months | No consent required: without this record we could not honour your choice. |
| Strictly necessary | dodo_ | The same record of your choice, held by the cookie bar itself. | Your choice is valid for 6 months. The record is deleted on your first visit after that. | No consent required: necessary for the bar to work. |
| Functional | dodo_ | Remembers the language you picked yourself in the switcher. It is not written when we infer the language from your browser settings. | 12 months | No consent required: it stores an interface preference you actively chose. |
| Functional | dodo_ | The entry page and source of the current visit, so a possible enquiry can be attributed to the right campaign. Contains no identifier of a person or device. | Until the browser is closed | No consent required: visit context without an identifier. |
| Functional | egrocery-map-country (local storage) | Remembers the country you picked on the coverage map, so the map opens on it next time. | Until cleared in the browser | No consent required: it remembers an interface choice you actively made. |
| Strictly necessary | Admin session cookie | Signs staff in to the site's internal administration. It does not concern ordinary visitors. It is created only after an employee logs in. | Until sign-out, 7 days at most | No consent required: necessary for authentication. |
| Analytics | None yet | Google Analytics 4 is prepared but not running on this site. If we switch it on, it will load only after your consent and we will add it to this table. | — | Consent only. |
| Marketing | None yet | No advertising tools run on the site. Any future deployment will be conditional on consent. | — | Consent only. |
This table describes the real state of the site. When a tool is added or removed, this list changes with it.
How to change your choice
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time. It is as easy as giving consent. Open the settings with the button below, or use the cookie icon that sits permanently in the bottom-left corner of the site.
Until you confirm your choice, every optional category is switched off. Closing the bar with the Esc key means “necessary only”. We treat that as your decision, not as postponing it.
You can also delete or block cookies in your browser. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will, however, break the features that depend on them.
Open the settings with the cookie icon in the bottom-left corner of the site (it needs JavaScript enabled).
Cookieless traffic measurement
DODO's own traffic measurement does not rely on cookies and stores no identifier on your device. For the duration of the visit it keeps only the entry page and the source of the visit in session storage (dodo_landing in the table above). It works with a pseudonymous code that changes every day. The cryptographic salt the code is computed from is deleted from the database automatically on the third night after the day it was valid for; it remains in the database backups for a limited time. The measurement serves basic traffic and performance statistics.
This measurement rests on legitimate interest. You have the right to object to it, and we also honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal if your browser sends one. The details are in our personal-data processing information.
Who has access
Data from the cookie bar stays on our site. The bar is our own, and it sends nothing to any third party.
If we later switch on Google Analytics 4, Google Ireland Ltd. will act as processor. Until then the site does not load Google Analytics, and we pass no data to any analytics or advertising provider ourselves. Data may, in justified cases, be shared within the DoDo Group SE companies.
The embedded players from YouTube (Google), Spotify, SoundCloud, Vimeo and Apple Podcasts in some articles currently load together with the page, that is before you make a choice in the bar. Their providers receive your IP address and browser details from your browser and may store their own cookies on your device. We do not list those in the table above because we do not store them ourselves. The details are in our personal-data processing information.
